The big house is still there.  It actually looks quite modern from the road. When I was in it it was split into a huge semi and managers from the milk marketing board (I think) lived and worked at Southbar.  If you google on Southbar Rd, Inchinnan, follow the white road next to A726 all the way up to your left.  The house sits in front of the industrial buildings which were laboratories etc for breeding from prize bulls.
The roundabout at the start of Southbar Rd with Greenock Rd to the left is known as the Red Smiddy, when you get there you can see the house up
on the hill straight on and left.
Hope that helps.

Hi Liz,
Thanks for coming back so quick - your post is very interesting because, when I google-mapped it, it appears I have been looking at a different location - If you turn right (heading north) off the A726 onto the white road you mention, and continue PAST your South Bar House, and then turn left at the T junction, the road continues for a short distance before coming to a dead end (except for a right turn)   This is where the house I have been looking at is situated - The right turn at this point just before the dead end eventually joins up with the Old Greenock Road - It appears I have been looking at the wrong house!

On google map there is a red dot that says Southbar, the house is on the left.  I
think you maybe looking at the right house!

Thanks Liz - I will be able to spend a couple of days there in November - I will come back to you and let you know the results - I was born in Greenock but left when I was 10 yrs of age and have only been back to Scotland 3 or 4 times so it will be a very nostalgic visit

Regards

Good morning Rootchatters,
I have put 'completed' on this thread (I think that's what you have to do when a thread had run its natural course, however I have come back as I wanted to thank all those who havw helped me - I will be continuing my search through the help and references given and will eventually report on the conclusion but I doubt there is any more to be had from it currently.

Once again - thanks to you all who responded - with a special thanks to Zmurphy

Kincaid -

(My Armitage in West Yorkshire  and Pontifax in Glucestershire  threads are still open and I am about to publish names on the Armitage thread as soon as I verify them, which should be later today or Monday evening at the latest)
