John and Mary Docherty

I am looking for info on John Docherty married to a Mary Harkin
their daughter Mary was born about 1839 Ireland
I looked on IGI for Mary's birth using parents names John Docherty and Mary Harkin
but the results show children born to this couple were born between 1864 and 1872 in Ireland
I know this cannot be the right couple as their daughter
Mary married 1865 to Patrick Malone in Greenock all the censuses for Patrick and Mary say she was born Ireland
I have checked SP for deaths but with such a common name it is impossible to tell
which one it is

Hi

Because their daughter married in Scotland does not necessarily mean that John & Mary were also living in Scotland

I thought I would just ask on the off chance that someone
