Please could someone explain the Removals from Peterborough record.
I have the following I don't understand.
Removals to Peterborough. Mary Haynes wife of Charles, to Outwell Isle of Ely. Exam 11th August 1827. Charles not seen or heard of for 9 years.
Extra info; Mary was bapt in Peterborough, her husband Charles was born in Emneth, they were married in Emneth. Charles was buried in Outwell.
Thanks in advance Andrea.

Mary may have claimed relief from Peterborough overseers, or they feared she was about to claim. They didn't want to pay and following an examination they proved she was not their responsibility ie Peterborough was not her parish of legal settlement. As her husband's last parish of settlement was Outwell, and as she automatically acquired his parish of settlement, a Removal Order was obtained to send her to Outwell, whose responsibility she was.

Thank you David, much clearer now.
I also came across Settlement Examination, would there have been one of these for Mary in the Outwell Parish or would she have automatically been allowed to settle there?
Andrea.

Legally, the Settlement Examination she had at Peterborough would have fixed her parish of settlement as Outwell. There wouldn't have been the need for a further examination at Outwell. Outwell was stuck with her and her children
