Is a possible to look up records for bastardy records for Baptisms. I have a Gr Grandfather Charles Harding Barnes born illegitimate to Ann Barnes - baptised 1837 in Burwell. I believe he also had a brother John Charles born illeg. 07.09.1834 and another one Albert Barnes Bap. 04.10.1840 all in Burwell and all Illeg. with mother Ann Barnes. I thought the father might have been a 'Harding ' - although Charles Harding named his first child Charles Harden ( different spelling).
Charles Harding Barnes married Mary Bowers in 1858, and prior to that her father Matthew Bowers (W) married an Ann Barnes (S) in 1847 - her father was John. I can only guess that Charles' Mother married Mary's father when the children were young - hence their marrying each other.
Is it possible to find out who the father of the 3 boys was.
The Parish Chest may have bastardy bonds that will give the name of the father if he was made to pay towards the upkeep of the child. Contact Cambridgeshire Record Office and ask about Burwell records. Andrea

Baptism records do occasionly name the father of illigitimate children, although I gather this is rare. Bastardy records will, although I have only just discovered these & as so don't know if they were usual or unusual etc, check with Records Office. I wouldn't pay to much attention to spelling at this time, spellings are often different within the same family even, many people were illiterate & as so it was up to the person who indexed the information, plus not having such a correct way of spelling as we do today, led to differences.
