Have you read what it says Huh

Probably, however, any records relating to an inquest dating from more than 15 years ago will either have been destroyed, or will have been sent to the local archives service.

Hello Oldhippyone,

The site gives basic information relating to obtaining the papers covering Coroners' Inquests. You should be able to get these as the closure period of 75 years has expired. It is still not an easy process to obtain them though.

It is probable that the death would have been covered in a local paper. There could be quite a comprehensive report. It is often the case that the press report is as good as the Coroner's papers and it is far easier to get. Don't forget, Coroners' Inquests are usually held in public and the press attend them.

Local papers are usually kept for many years and can be found in the library of the place concerned. Also, in the area Record Office. Some are available online.

It might be possible to find something online with some more information. Was the death at the Heworth Colliery? What was the name of the deceased? It would be helpful to have as much detail as possible and we can see what there is.

On the other hand if you want to obtain the Coroner's Report specifically you can obtain the address of the Coroner for the place online.

Jo

There are two types of document which are relevant to your query. Inquest Papers, subject to the 75 year closure rule, and Inquest Registers.
Inquest Registers may provide the information you are looking for and the seventy-five year closure rule does not apply to Inquest Registers.
Individual Coroners decide what happens to the papers very many of them were destroyed by the coroner anyway, hence there are regional variations in survival.
It is a simple enough matter to enquire at the appropriate county record office, which will almost certainly know what is available and where it is.
Coroner's records can be accessed within 75 years. Anyone who, in the opinion of the coroner, has a bona fide research interest may be given access to closed records no matter where the records are stored. However, the coroner will have due regard for privacy, and for the avoidance of propaganda or mischief. The coroner is not bound to supply reasons why an application for access is refused.

Gateshead Library has a local studies section.  This link will take you to the newspapers that they hold though I can't actually see one which would cover the period you are looking for.  There seems to be gaps.

Might be worth an email though
