1891 census
« on: Friday 22 May 09 21:18 UTC (UK) »

Hi

does anyone have access to this census for Greenock.  Ancestry has my ancestor as being born Ireland

Parish: Greenock East; ED: 54; Page:  38; Line: 17; Roll: CSSCT1891_180; Year: 1891.

On the 1901 census for Wales, says he is born Birmingham
Class: RG13; Piece: 4992; Folio: 146; Page: 37.

sorry forgot the name John Britton

thanks in advance

Hi All

1881 in Birminham has John as born in Ireland, (although wife Eliza and children show Birmingham birth places rather than Wales as in later censuses).

RG11 2990 / 19/ 32

Thanks Monica.  I don't think thats them on the 1881 census. John and Eliz didn't marry until dec 1881, and I have Elizabeth on the 1881 census living in Wales

John is listed as born ireland on the original image from Scotlands people - his wife and children are all listed as born Wales.
(Including two step children - Eliza Bowden age 18 and George Bowden aged 12)

Thanks Falkyrn  wonder why he gave 2 different plcaes for his birth.  I found the same for another branch of my family. Perhaps it was better to say born in the UK rather than from Ireland!

Eliza stayed in greenock and the others all went back to Wales
