RUDD - Yarnscombe
« on: Monday 09 November 09 23:00 UTC (UK) »

Looking for the family of Rudd's that lived in YARNSCOMBE.  They show up in the 1841 Census.  They are Margaret & James Rudd (parents) with 5 children.  Philip, William, Rebecca, Nathaniel and Ambrose.
Only Margaret and James show up in the 1851 census.  They are 69 an 70 in 1851 but are 55 in the 1841 Census.  Looking for deaths of above parents or links to Rebecca, William and Philip.  Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

By the way -  don't forget in 1841 census ages of adults over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 yrs. So age 55 would dentote an age of 55-59

Wow!
Thank you so much for your information!  I have been 'Stuck' for awhile and this has been a real help.
Ambrose was born about 1831 and Nathaniel (my 2nd great grandfather) was born approx. 1824-28
Can you tell me when there was Civil Registration for B, D & M in Devon?
Ambrose and Nathaniel came to Canada.

Thankyou again.  Still looking to tryand find rest of family info.

It depends which area of devon the event occurred in for registration district . registration did not begin until sept qtr 1837 - and although most registered it was not enforced so some may be "missing"

why not ask the Devon Family History Society for a printout from its indexes?
Just ask for Rudd, and you can restrict it to Yarnscombe if you wish, see http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/indexes.htm

Thanks, I will try that. I really need to prove this is the right family.  Looks like it!  Unfortunately there is no info on the Rudd brothers prior to coming to Canada that is known or remembered to exist. I wonder if it would be wise to try and follow and find other "Rudd" offspring and see if I can find any connections that may exist in the area of Yarnscombe?
