Elizabeth Gibson/Hall/Wallis
« on: Saturday 23 May 09 15:59 BST (UK) »

Hallo,
I am researching into the Catholic background of a mother and daughter: Elizabeth Wallis née Hall (c1834-1903) and Elizabeth Hall née Gibson (c1794-1857).
A deceased great aunt of mine who was infallible in her family knowledge, said that the ‘family’ were recusants but of course I wasn’t old enough to ask which family and so that information is lost however I do know that Elizabeth Wallis was Catholic.  It was not her husband’s family because they were Protestant and it wasn’t the Hall family because they were Protestant also.
Elizabeth Hall was married in the Hull Registrar Office but Elizabeth Gibson was married in Church however this was prior to the Catholic Emancipation Act and so they had to be married in the C of E.
The Gibsons came from Lincoln so I am going to post in that forum too but is anyone able to help with records that would show which parish etc they belonged to and if they appeared in records?
The Halls lived in North Street and later in South Street, in Hull.
The Wallis family lived in North Street and for a long time in Pearson Street.
Thank you
Kirk
