William Ludford 1768 Coventry - Baptism Lookup

Hi
I have William Ludford in my tree as being born in 1752 and undergoing baptism on 24 Oct 1768 at St Michael's in Coventry.  This is from the IGI which added the note that he was undergoing christening at 16.  Would anybody be able to check this for me as I am trying to trace his parentage.

I have his marriage to Mary Vale 26 Aug 1770 St Michaels but I know nothing about her, so if you also find her on your travels that would be great.

It is probable that the only records that have survived are the Bishops transcripts - the cathederal (St Michaels, Coventry) was bombed during the war.

If the BT survive then theses records are at Lichfield and Warwick record offices. It is also possible that only the name of the child is in the BT's and not the parents??? Sad Sad

Vale is the name of a well known Coventry clockmaker.  Also you will almost certainly find that the new Archives Centre in Jordan Well (Herbert Art Gallery site) will have copies on film or fiche of St Michael's register.  They did not all perish but there are gaps.  BT's are of course useful for the gaps.  The St Michael's registers for the period you want have also been transcribed in booklet form and can be seen (maybe bought) at the History Centre in the Local Studies centre.  There are also apprenticeship registers published.
A John Ludford of Coventry was apprenticed to Joseph Vale of Coventry, watch pendant maker 5 Nov 1795 which suggests a possible link between the two families.  There are 10 entries for name Ludford in the Register including:
David son of Wm Ludford of Coventry cordwainer, David s. of Wm of Coventry, weaver 17 Oct 1743  Jonathan assigned to Mary L of Coventry weaver 1799 etc.

Many thanks for that - all is not lost then!  I will try and buy the booklet in the near future as it will probably come in useful for any additional look ups.
