Arles France advice please
« on: Saturday 23 May 09 16:40 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to trace the marriage of a Thomas William Paulo Ellsey born 1813 Marylebone and a Susanna Huh who was born in Arles France. They came from a circus family and the story goes that they married in France. I cannot trace any record  of their marriage in London where they lived and had their children and have hit a brick wall. Huh They had the following three children all born Marylebone London - Thomas born 1834, Josephine 1836 and Elizabeth 1839. The family lived in the Marylebone area of London.

Any advice as to what to do next would be greatly appreciated Smiley.

 - you can look at the records online for this department, I didn't see their marriage in Arles under Ellsey.

If you could find Elizabeth's birth certificate, that would give you Susanna's maiden name so you could track her side of the family.

Thanks for this. I have now found Elizabeth's record so have sent for the certificate. Hopefully it will give me Susanna's surname. I will post again when I have it and ask advice.

Hi Sue  Smiley

If it's any help, and if all else fails, you can order and view the films of ten year indexes of births, marriages, deaths of the towns in the arrondissement of Arles, France for 1813-1832 (Tables décennales 1813-1832, film #1335940), or the same for Arles (Bouches du Rhone) for 1808-1814 film #1714239, 1815-1819 film # 1714240, at your nearest big LDS centre (£3 per film to order in the UK, but it might take two months to arrive! Roll Eyes).

Kind regards
Gaie

No luck so far with the birth, but I found in Boyd's marriage index:

1834: Thos. Ellsey and Sus. Maccauley, Westminster St. George Hanover Square
