Hi , i am looking for information on how to obtain the birth cirtificate of my husbands grandfather .I have found him living in Troon in Scotland in 1915 i do not have his parents names and i do not know if he was born in troon i am stuck on how to get his birth certificate . His name was Edward Johnston Conniss he married Isabella Barr Greenwood

Hi Lynda

Given the dates you have, you can view his birth certificate on line at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It is not expensive, £1.20 to carry out the search and view the image (you have to buy an initial number of units (30) for £6).

You could start with his marriage certificate to Isabella which shows in Ayrshire in 1909. Scottish marriage certs are very informative and will include his parents' names including mother's maiden name.

His age at marriage will help you in trying to search for his birth entry and also let you confirm it is correct with verification on his parents' names.
