Where is this?
« on: Sunday 24 May 09 00:29 UTC (UK) »

This photo was taken around 1912 in Nuneaton.  The man in the middle is my great granfather and his son is to the right.  Tom was a milk man, and I would like to know the name of the street or shop where he left or picked up the milk.
This maybe a big ask, but would love any response to this.

Great picture to have, maybe one of the geniuses on here can do some restoration work on it for you.

My Mum and Dad used to live in Nuneaton, but everyone in our family up that way has passed on now.   Hope you find out where it is.

I am researching the following families:
Hurst / Payne - Leicestershire / Warwickshire / Worcestershire
Toon(e) - Leicestershire
Batchelor / Foster - Warwickshire / Northamptonshire
Hardy - Dorset

My web site has the family tree showing.  I am researching primarily the Payne, Hurst, Foster and Batchelor lines in the Midlands.

Nuneaton is warwickshire, not Leics!

However I found it in kelly's for 1912

Unless I have missed any, these are the entries that have a number 44 in their addresses

I think George Allen or John H Saunders look the most likey!

George Allen shopkeeper 44 Clarence Street
Leonard Bounds herbalist 44 Broad Street
Samuel Carter bootmaker 44 Queens Rd
Jobson and nephew pork butcher 44 & 45 Abbey Street
Ted Mills Newsagent 44 Church Str
John H Saunders grocer 44Attleborough Rd

I agree with the most likely cases.
I would say it looks more like a general store / ironmongers, but the containers outside could also be for milk.
It's hard to remember life before plastic and refrigerators etc...

It is milk containers, as I said Tom was a milk man, and I should think the horse and cart to the side would be his.  Empty or being filled after delivering milk or picking milk up?
I thought Nuneaton was Leicester, got that one wrong then.
