Slaugham parish registers - marriage of John Hunsome

Hi

I have tried various spellings on the Sussex Marriage Index but am unable to find a marriage to fit some baptisms I have found.

I have Mary Hunsome baptised 22 December 1738 at Slaugham to John and Elizabeth.

There is a marriage between John Hounsome and Elizabeth Todman in 1728 at Trotton but I think that is possibly too far away.

Does anyone (I think maybe Sillgen  Wink ) have access to Slaugham PRs to check to see if there is a marriage for a John with any spelling around about 1730.  (There is also a baptism for a Sarah Hunsome 1734 to John and Elizabeth)

Yes, I have some fiche for Slaugham but am on holiday at the moment so can't check what dates they cover.   Will look next week when we are back - remind me!

Yes, I'm back!   Had a quick look and no John and Elizabeth Hunsome as yet but there are several entries for a couple called Johnson and it is interesting that the baptism for Sarah in 1834 (May 7th) the start of the name could be a J as the beginning of the H is very curly.  Might be worth bearing in mind as a mistranscription I would never have thought of.    Will keep looking.

That's interesting Andrea.  Mary Houdsom married Joseph Johnson in Cuckfield in 1755 and I am currently trying to trace her line.  I found her baptism on the IGI but actually I don't think I have been on the SFHG database yet to find any siblings.

Trouble is since that database has appeared I've been using it for all lines of enquiry which amounts to quite a lot of my tree Roll Eyes

I did and that is excellent as it at least proves that there was a John and Elizabeth having children.  It seems to be one of those names with many spellings!

Searched marriages from 1720 and did not see it.  Sorry.   Might be worth checking the Trotton register to see if that couple have children before 1734 and then disappear.   Will try and see if there are any burials.

No Hunsome children in Trotton baptisms at all.

So perhaps this is the right couple.

Just been back to the SMI to relook at the marriage of John and Elizabeth in Trotton, there is a licence (Chichester) and he is described of Trotton and in the subject notes box for Elizabeth it says Farnest??  Have no idea what that means.  I've not heard of a parish called Farnest.

Yes presumably my Mary Hounsom was not the daughter of John and Elizabeth, so I'll now start relooking for another baptism for her.
