Mira Hawkins Trelawny

Please does anyone have access to the Parish Church records for Funtington Sussex. I believe that Mira Hawkins Trelawny  was baptised there on 8 March 1798 & would very much like to prove it.
Thankyou

Hi Vesta

I checked the parish records on the Sussex Family History Group database and you are correct, Mira was baptised at Funtington, St Mary on 8 March 1798.  Her parents were Charles and Mary.

Hi Vesta

Further to my private message I searched the Funtington records and found two more baptisms but they don't seem to fit in with what you have.

Funtington born to Charles and Mary Trelawny
Caroline Trelawny baptised 27 September 1796

Letitia Trelawny baptised 7 September 1799

Hi Kerry
Thank you for relooking at the Parish records. What you tell me is VERY interesting. It seems that Caroline must have been born in 1796 not 1799 as originally thought. I am most interested in Letitia, this is definately a Trelawny name, my own Grandma was Laetitia. Caroline is supposed to have died in 1814 of pneumonia in Weymouth but I have yet to prove this. I wonder if Letitia died young?
I really appreciate your help--Thank you

That's a pleasure.

I did a general search from 1790 across Sussex and nothing came up.  I wonder where they were before 1796.  Do you know when and where they married?

Thanks again.
Maria Hawkins known as Mary born 1762 "Trewithen" Cornwall
Col. Charles Trelawny later Brereton -Trelawny b 1757 possibly Kensington but his father was born Cornwall.
Charles & Maria were married 1 July 1786 -- I imagine in Cornwall, but I am going to the Cornish Record office at the end of June. There has been talk of a son named Hayward, he's on IGI but no one appears to know anything of him. Hayward is a name in Maria's family so quite possible. Charles & Maria inherited a house in Soho Sq on the death of Charles father in 1800. I don't yet know of a way to find out where they lived from 1786 until 1800. I sort of hoped it might say on the baptism record s"of this Parish"
Other lines of thought always appreciated.

Maybe the earlier children were born in Cornwall and they slowly worked their way across to London.   Smiley

Anyway good luck and I hope you find them.
