HELP PLEASE?!? I am trying to find my GREENWAY line, and with your help in the past, have had success.
I am now trying to follow my 6xGF Brother - Digory Greenway.
He is the Son of George Greenway & Susanna PASCOE - hence he may be shown as Digory Pascoe Greenway (as is his Son).
I have managed to find in on the 1841 and 1871 census, but he's completely gone of the 1851 and 1861 - ?
I've tried so many variations of spelling that I am going dizzy!
I know he married "Agnes Rainey" in Falmouth March qtr 1857 - so you think if I couldn't find DIGERY/DIGORY etc then Agnes would be a bit easier? No chance!!
As did all his family, he was a Seaman/Coastguard/Sailor etc so I thought he might be abroad/aboard ship etc ??
Any suggestions please?
Cheers
Elaine

Hi,
Have you found him on 1881 census?
He's shown as "Coastguard Pensioner (Navy), living with Agnes and 3 children (2 sons and 1 daughter....just initials) in Falmouth. Children all born Falmouth.

OMG! Thank you SO much - you will not believe how much time I have spent trying to find that entry - I think I am losing the plot!!
On the latter years, the Son, Hugh, is Frederick H Greenway .....
Very Bizarre!!!
I do have him on the 1881 census, thank you
Now all I need is the 1851 census .... LOL
Thank you all - again !!!

Well, I'm not having any luck in 1851 at all
Seeing as he was in the coastguards, and doesn't seem to be anywhere in UK, maybe you were right about him being at sea - or possibly he was in Ireland - there was a large coastguard contingent there - several of my people spent some time posted in Ireland

HAHA ... I found his Wife-to-be on the 1851 census - Agnes Rainey.
Her Father is Chief Boatman in the Coastguard Service ....
He's not in the surrounding area (I checeked the census) ... then again, she was only 12 on the 1851 census ... a bit too young eh?

I did think when I saw where she was from that they had probably met through the Coastguard Service - I thought maybe he had been posted to Sussex, but if her father was in the service, maybe that family came to Cornwall

They seemed to stay in Falmouth, and lived on Scilly for a while (long enough to have 2 children) then came back to Falmouth again ... they were on Scilly on the 1871 census.
I can see a few Digory Greenway's on the older Cornwall sites .... the name Digory also appears on his Mother's side too ..... poor kid !
