Joseph DAVID - 1928 - Bigamy

I am trying to find any info re my grandfather, Joseph David, especially court/prison records or ancestry details.

Family stories say Joseph David was already married when he married Ivy Reid in 1928.  Apparently not long after their son, ---------, was born he was sent to jail for bigamy and never heard of again.  Family stories also say Joseph David was Welsh.

Marriage Certificate from Hampstead, London states:

16-Feb-1928
Joseph David - 48 years - Bachelor - Builder and Decorator - 120 Mill Lane - Father: Frederick David (deceased) Merchant Seaman.

and

Ivy Reid - 22 years - Spinster - Tailoress - 120 Mill Lane - Father: Frederick Reid - Brush Manufacturer.

Birth Certificate of --------------, London states:

1928
Father: Joseph David
Occupation of Father: Master Builder of Lewisham
Informant: Ivy David, mother, 52 Arabin Rd, Brockley

 
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

I looked at The Times and did not find any likely cases - perhaps another newspaper

Also looked at census for a Joseph son of Fred from 1881 to 1901 England and Wales but none found.

Also looked at 1901 England and Wales for a Joseph born around 1880 who was a builder but none found
and none of that age found in 1911 http://www.1911census.co.uk/
you might want to check the actual entries to see if any of Joseph around London are builders. It is pay to view

if he was a bigamist perhaps he also changed his name

Thanks for having a look Ron,

I have found a Joseph David born 1879 in the 1891 Welsh Census.

He was an inmate of Carmenthenshire Workhouse.

I have posted a message on the Carmarthenshire Forum to see if I can get any more info (eg his father's name).

Any more suggestions?

Yes I suppose based on the marriage age that Joseph is a possibility

and this could be him
Births Mar 1878  David    Joseph Gomer         Llanelly    11a   751

now where is he 1881 and 1901
