For the South Africa records I think rather than the main archives you might contact the local ones:
http://www.kznact.gov.za/?tabid=240
 - they have an email address you can contact. You might also ask them if they hold deals of applications for naturalization - as you have a certificate and know he was naturalized. I just wonder if there might be more information about his birthplace on there.

"R R Clerk" = railroad clerk.
"Bindery" = probably binding books.

Hello Jorose

Again, thank you very much.........of course R.R. for rail road in US of A, and RW for railway, as I would have thought it!  and bookbinding, yes!   Grin

Thank you for the link, I will see what I can raise up here on 'dial-up' otherwise will have to wait until a trip into town next week.

I've already, of course, searched through 1000+ docs in the national section of N.A.A.I.R.S., as well as in the Pietermaritzburgh Archives and the Durban Archives online etc etc!

One of my sons, hopefully moves the main furniture in one of the sheds, out, round about 26 June,  when he moves into his own place (from another place in town), so will have more room to search for boxes in there!!!!   Roll Eyes

Thanks again

Cheers

Hello

Ok, email has been sent off to the Pietermaritzburg archives email address, requesting look ups for death details of both Bernt Christian Moe and Lise Mathea Moe, known as Marthe Moe,    Wink

And, if they hold details of the whole family, Bernt, included, Naturalisation details?    Huh

Noticed that anyone can stroll into the Reading Room at the PmBurg Archives, request for free docs, photostat them, photograph them, etc etc.    Grin

So, if anyone out there reading this is in KZN, near or in Pietermaritzburg, please would you pop sometime into the archives and have a look for Bernt Christian (maybe they list him as Kristian) Moe and his family details, in particular, who the parents of both Bernt, and Lise Mathea are?    Huh   Huh

Cheers

Hi Danchaslyn.

Been thinking , this Bernt Cristian can`t be yours. You said, their first child died in Africa as  two year old and the one we have so far  have several children. Think we must find him in Norway and I`m guessing he is the son of Bernt Christian and Serine.

Hello Mary

I think you must be right, he can't be the right Bernt, and the right Bernt Christian Moe was still in Norway.    Wink

Still can't get the email through to the South African Archives, in Pietermaritzburg, so if I send you the email I tried sending to them, may I ask you please to try send it from you, as through a different server it may just be accepted?    Huh

Cheers

Thank you Grandma     Wink

Have sent the email to you, so lets hope that you will be able to get it through to the Pietermaritzburg Archives.    Grin

So frustrating, just when one thinks one I will soon have answers, then a technical prob!   Angry

My experience that folk is SA very slow to answer emails, sometimes up to six weeks!    Embarrassed
Currently, I'm waiting for answers from five emails, to five different folk, all sent more than a month ago!     Shocked

Good luck!    Cheesy

Cheers

Have sent another email through to both the Pietermaritzburg Archives (at another email address ) and the Durban Archives, so hoping for a reply soon.

Will also phone through to both, in South Africa, by mid-next week if not received replies.

Cheers

Hi Danchaslyn.

A little bit more about Bernt Christian. My son found him on the 1900 census, living with wife Serene Birgitte. He was born 1830 and Serine b. 1831. which makes him 27 when he married in 1857.

Also found the death of Bernt Christian Moe, July 8. 1916. Said he was born 1830 and father Einar Moe. Looks like it was your Bernt Christian. His occupation was a sailor.

Could it be his son who went to S.A?

Hello Mary

Please thank your son, very much, he certainly has been very busy and has found so many generations of the Moes!    Cool

Surely, you must be right, and it must be the son, of Bernt Christian Moe, the Sailor, who went out to Southern Africa???!!!    Shocked

It's so mystifying why Bernt Christian Moe, the Missionary who went out to Swaziland, is so difficult to find in Norway!    Angry

Thank you

Cheers

From reading Bernt Kristian Moe's Death Notice poses the following questions?

Was he born in Norway, round about November, 1867?   Huh

When and how did he leave Norway, for South Africa, then Swaziland?   Huh

Was he naturalised as a British Subject, and not a South African, possibly because at the time of the Naturalisation, +/- 1908, Natal, was a British Colony?   Huh

Any info much appreciated........ Grin

Cheers
