Germany: the old east research
« on: Wednesday 10 June 09 02:01 UTC (UK) »

My grandmother and her family were born in Breslau in Germany. As you may know, this is now where Wroclaw is Poland is located. I am fortunate enough to have some of her family traced back to the 18th century as Hitler required some citizens to prove German ancestry. However, I don't have anything going back on her father's side. I can't seem to find much information even when I go on the Ancestry.de site.

Does anyone know of any other ways I could find out more, or is it likely that records will have been lost after the war and boarder changes?

Hello Cara,

how good is your German? Go to G....gle.de and type "Ahnenforschung Breslau" and you will find a lot of advise and also other people searching in and around Breslau.

Good luck Peonie

Hi Cara,

found a good place to look   http://www.breslau-wroclaw.de/de/breslau/genealogie/

It might be good to post a name and as much info as you have. There is plenty of help available with German.
