Wallace TRUSCOTT, 1901 look up please
« on: Monday 25 May 09 18:44 UTC (UK) »

Hello All,

Could some-one please help with a look-up in the 1901 census for Wallace Ambrose Truscott, born 1885 in Merther.

I am trying to find out about his earlier years, to add to the information I have for his final years:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,372460.0.html

The nearest match I can see on the index is Wallace Trusell, age 15, in St Clement Urban. Is it a bad transcription?

I am also trying to locate his parents in 1901: Richard, born about 1844 and Ellen, born about 1847. There is an Ellen of about the right age and born Probus, in St Clement Urban, but I can't see a Richard.
In 1911 Richard and Ellen appear to be in St Columb, with sons Jabez and George.

Thanks to the excellent Cornwall OPC's I have the earlier data.

Many thanks in advance,

Phil

Hello Hepburn,

I can't check your reference. Wallace Trusell was the closest I could pull out of the search engine. By 1911 he was in London. In 1891 he was at Nancemeer. RG12/1820; Folio 27; Page 12; Sch.71.

Yes thanks, I have got his full service record. He died 13th May 1918 in Lewisham War Hospital of wounds received in France the previous year.

Hi Phil,

Here is the entry. Enumerators writing is not good but it does not look like TRUSCOTT to me - there are Truscotts on the page- Its TRUSCOTT but could be TRUSCOLL/TENSCOLL/TEUSCOLL - his u's and n's are same, his t's are not crossed but the boys name I am sure are l's not t's. (Truscott family look more like ts. I would give it TENSELL.

RG13/2221 Folio 5 Page 2
5 Campfield Hill
St Clement Urban

BROWNE Eliza Head 56 Widow b Truro
HUSSON Matilda J Sister 46 unm b Truro Laundress
COSGROVE Will John Boarder 26 Unm b Belfast Ireland Brickmaker
TENSELL/TRUSELL/TEUSELL Wallace Boarder 15 b Truro Outfitter (Clothier)

I cannot find anybody to fit in 1891 or BMD's  Undecided

Hi Hepburn,

Sorry not explaining very well. I did find Phil's Wallace TRUSCOTT's birth and found him in 1891 census. I did not find a possibility for Wallace TENSELL or like in 1891 census nor a birth for him.

Thank you Hepburn and Kris.

He was the closest match I could find by way of age, birth place and occupation.
I'm almost sure, but not quite.  Undecided

Hi..

Have found his parents and siblings in 1901 - and he is not living with them (in St Enoder/ St Columbus Major?)

Richard 58
Ellen 55
William 24
Samuel 22
Jabez 20
George 18

RG13/2208/58/12

So he is presumably living elsewhere and not with the family.  And Outfitter as an occupation fits well with his later occupation.
