I am looking for the death of William Pinkney, son of Thomas. He was 21 and a coal miner living at 7 Eleanor Tce South Shields in the 1901 Census. I have heard that he had a motorike accident when young which caused brain damage and he ended up in Sedgefield Hospital. Apparantly his dad visited him there. His dad died in 1925. Any ideas on this would be so much appreciated

Hi you two,
On the 1891/1901 returns there is also a William H Pinkney, son of Thomas, b. approx. 1879, living in South Cornsay, which is in the Lanchester registration district ??
Something doesn't seem right here, I hate to be a doubting Thomas, but it appears there is more one than one choice for William .. ?
Sedgefield is also slightly nearer to Cornsay than South Shields .. ?
Kind regards,
Pels.

No I can't Mum .. and that's what makes me think the one you found is most likely correct .. ?
I'd like daisylazy to have a look at the William Henry Pinkney living South Cornsay .. just to satisfy my curiosity mainly .. ?

Looking outside Durham -
William Pinkney death reg. in Huddersfield Q2. 1918 Vol 9a. Pg 377, age 38
He could have had the accident a way away from home, or been in hospital in Huddersfield as the result

Problem being, there was also a William Pinkney born in the Leeds Registration distict in 1881 .. this could also account for the Huddersfield death in 1918 .. ?
It's all theoretical until we get a reply .. !

Well thanks for all that lovely info. William was one of six sons born to Thomas Pinkney (1852) and Mary Ann Burdis (1852). She died in 1891. As stated before, William was with his father at Eleanor Tce in the 1901 Census along with brothers John, James and Joseph. Johns daughter Irene (b 1918) was still alive last year and that is where I got the info re William having a motorbike accident, from which he died after a number of years in Sedgefield. She said she remembers her dad - John and grandfather Thomas visiting him regularly. It could be that William lived on after his father Thomas died in 1925. Maybe I shouldnt have pursued this, but was just curious and wanted to add another date to my tree. Thanks for the trouble you have all taken. Thomas was my g grandfather
