« on: Sunday 21 June 09 03:08 UTC (UK) »

Searching in 1841 census for Daniel SHAW and his wife Christian, approx. age 42. Possibly children. They were married in 1824 in Abbey, Paisley, Renfrewshire. Thank you.   Smiley

Hi lanarman

Can't see them in Renfrewshire.
This looks like it could be them in Lanarkshire - the 1841 Census rounded down ages of those over 15 to the nearest multiple of 5  (or was meant to, some of the enumerators either ignored, forgot or misunderstood the instruction). This couple could both have been as old as 40 ish (born abt 1801 ish). Neither was enumerated as born in Lanarkshire.

1841: Tollcross ~ Shettleston, Barony, Lanarkshire
Parish 622, ED 13b, Folio 192, pg 11
Daniel SHAW 36, Ag Lab - N
Christian SHAW 35,  - N

In 1851, the same couple are in same place.......

1851: Main St Morisons Land ~ Tollcross, Shettleston, Lanarkshire
Parish 622, ED 13, pg 8
Head: Daniel SHAW 49, Waggon Driver (coal) b Paisley Renfrewshire abt 1802
Wife: Christina SHAW 52, b Glasgow Lanarkashire (abt 1799)

They are also in Tollcross in 1861, aged 10 years each from the 1851 and same places of birth as stated in 1851.
Can't see either of them in the 1871.

They appear to be couple alone in each census 1841  1851  1861

Cheers

They are the only family I found also Amberly.

Daniel appears to have died in Shettleston 1863

I am 99% sure that these are the people I am looking for. Thank you- AMBLY and Mariac!  Cheesy   It seems as if they had no children or if they did- they died young.  Huh  Christian was born 1799 in Glasgow to James Umpherston and Mary Drummond. Daniel MAY have been the son of James Shaw and Mary Dumbar, but thats just a guess.

Is there any way to find a death registration/year for Christian Shaw?
Thanks again. Lanar.

PS- does the 1851/61 actually say Christina instead of Christian?
