Thomas Burton
« on: Tuesday 26 May 09 12:38 UTC (UK) »

I’m trying to find records of my 3rd Great Grandfather Thomas Burton. On the 1841-1871 Census transcripts where he resided in Liverpool , it states that he was born in Loftus North Yorkshire in around 1805. I was wondering how I could get more information on him i.e. Parish Records. I would be grateful if you could direct me in right location so as I can go further with my family tree?

Regards

Hi Shorne,

Welcome to Rootschat Smiley

Have you tried the IGI on www.Familysearch. org

There is a christening 1805 for a Thomas in Loftus, Mother Hannah.
There are 2 other siblings. It appears she was a single Mother.

Do you have his wife Susanah's maiden name?
There is a possible marriage for them 1827, St Peters, Liverpool ( will leave the fun for you Grin)

The other siblings are worth following on census as Hannah may have stayed single or married and be living with one of them.
If you need any help just ask.

Will just go ahead as off to bed soon Roll Eyes

When you find christening, click on batch no/ another page loads
Type in only- Last name- Burton
                     Mothers name- Hannah

Click on search
Other childrens baptisms will appear Smiley
Normally you would put in both parents names .

If you search IGI
Thomas Burton , marriage, 1825 +/- 5yrs, British Isles, England, Lancashire, you will find a possible one ;
27 August 1827. Click on Thomas Burton and it will load page with spouses name.

Any problems I will be online again tomorrow.

Hi Trish,
I have tried what you told me to do and has worked. Hopefully now with more names to go on, i will be able to go further with my research. Would you know where i can get free parish records from online for the Loftus area, otherwise i will have to drive all the way up to Middlesbro and visit the Teeside archives, which is a mission for me as i live in Kent?
Once again thankyou very much for your help.

Shorne.
