Hi Graeme,

welcome to Roots Chat.

You may already have this but here goes ....

The records I found say that Joseph was convicted 3 May 1830 in Hertford and sentenced to life. He was transported on the Southworth,  voyage date 23 Jun 1830. Looks like he got a Conditional Pardon at some time but I can't tell when.

As he was shipped out before the censuses and registration came about the only other thing I can see is his christening on 13 Jul 1806 at Chipping Barnet, parents Joseph Pedder and Sarah.

I hope someone can add to this for you.

Thanks Genie,...............The info on Joseph Pedder was great, I had some but learnt more.. ?? he arrived Tasmania, did not go to Port Arthur, he was 'leased'
straight to a well to do gentlrman on a farm property, much later receiving his "Ticket of Leave' followed by his Conditional aprdon , the condition being NOT TO RETURN TO ENGLAND , so he settled down. married , had about 10 children , became a property owner and a respected citiszen in the business arena of Hobart  , died in 1883 , his headstone is being looked after by another relly here in Tasmania ?? also has a  smallplaque in the 'Convict trail in Campbell Town ..thanks for your help  GraemeP

Hi Graeme,
The IGI records the marriage of a Joseph PEDER and Sarah LONG 18Feb1794 and  nine baptisms for children of a Joseph & Sarah PEDDER - Joseph 04Dec1794 (Bur.12May1805) Thomas 22Sep1799 (Bur.02Oct1803 or 15Aug1811) Ann 04Apr1802 (Bur.19Dec1802) Ann 25Dec1803,  Joseph 13Jul1806,  Sarah 20Nov1808,  William 04Sep1814,  John 13Oct1816 and Frederick 31Oct1819.
Burial of Joseph age 61 04May1830 and Sarah  age 62 18Oct1835 at Chipping Barnet appear on the Hertfordshire Burial Index.
All these events took place at Chipping Barnet and hopefully are all one family but will need to be checked.   I wish you well.

Well, that's sad. It would seem that Joseph's father was buried the day after Joseph was convicted.

Hi Graeme,

Have you contacted  Ezekiel who made a posting regarding Joseph on 14th March 08.  The item is still open on page 3 of the Hertfordshire board.
