Hi Graeme,
welcome to Roots Chat.
You may already have this but here goes ....
The records I found say that Joseph was convicted 3 May 1830 in Hertford and sentenced to life. He was transported on the Southworth, voyage date 23 Jun 1830. Looks like he got a Conditional Pardon at some time but I can't tell when.
As he was shipped out before the censuses and registration came about the only other thing I can see is his christening on 13 Jul 1806 at Chipping Barnet, parents Joseph Pedder and Sarah.
I hope someone can add to this for you.

Thanks Genie,...............The info on Joseph Pedder was great, I had some but learnt more.. ?? he arrived Tasmania, did not go to Port Arthur, he was 'leased' straight to a well to do gentlrman on a farm property, much later receiving his "Ticket of Leave' followed by his Conditional aprdon , the condition being NOT TO RETURN TO ENGLAND , so he settled down. married , had about 10 children , became a property owner and a respected citiszen in the business arena of Hobart , died in 1883 , his headstone is being looked after by another relly here in Tasmania ?? also has a smallplaque in the 'Convict trail in Campbell Town ..thanks for your help GraemeP

Well, that's sad. It would seem that Joseph's father was buried the day after Joseph was convicted.
