Barnard of Elm
« on: Wednesday 28 October 09 20:22 UTC (UK) »

I am stuck - please can anyone help me??  Huh

I have in my family tree the following:

Robert Barnard b circa 1817 Friday Bridge, Elm, Cambs who married
i. Hannah Sydell and then  ii. Mary Ablett.  These were confirmed my Rootschat ages ago.  Thank you whoever it was for doing that bit for me.

My problem is that I think I have a father for Robert Barnard who is Richard Barnard b 1787 Elm,Cambs and married an Elizabeth.  I think this information is correct.

1. Can anyone confirm this
2.  Who is Elizabeth
3.  When did they marry

If anyone can help it would be appreciated as this is a hard brick wall to knock down at the moment.    With many thanks  Loupy

Have you purchased either of his marriage certs, which will transform thinking his father is Richard to knowing his father is Richard?

I can't see a baptism on http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

Until you can confirm his father was Richard it's premature to be chasing after his marriage.

I do apologise - yes, I have checked and I do have a marriage certificate for Robert and Hannah and can confirm that it states Richard Barnard as Robert's father, from Elm, Cambs.

sorry

The 1851 census has a Richard Barnard age ?70? widower born Bradfield, Norfolk living in Elm. In 1841 he was living with Elizabeth, both 60, neither born in Cambs. In both censuses son Samuel aged 20 and 30 respectively, was living in the household.

If you've checked Elm parish register for their marriage and have drawn a blank, I think you probably need to be then looking in Norfolk for their marriage. Bradfield baptisms and marriages for the right times are on the IGI but there are no Barnards. Possibly someone on the Norfolk board has access to Norfolk Marriage Index

The baptism and burial indexes on the Cambs FHS site I mentioned yesterday include some, but obviously not all, of their children.
