Gloucestershire Strays in 18th Century marriages (Beverstone)
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 11:34 UTC (UK) »

Chatters all,

Whilst once more searching my list of 18th century marriages at Beverstone I saw so many brides and/or grooms from so many parishes that I thought I'd let you know.

These are the parishes mentioned at least once in my list at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,310408.0.html and the place names are as written in the records but I've added the Chapman county codes in places.

Beverstone, Tetbury, Kingscote, Avening, Horsley,  Pe**ey in BRK, Charington, Stroud, Malmesbury WIL, Ozelworth, Painswick, Cirencester, Nimpsfield, Hawkes burie, Clyffe Pipard WIL, Bagpath, Rodborough, Cam, Stonehouse, King Stanley, Coberley, Ashley WIL,  Chevenage, St Mary Whitechappel London, Minchinhampton (And even Minching Hampton!), Joelgethley Merioneth, Gloster, Nailsworth, Woodchester, Dauntsey WIL, Winchcombe, Bristol, **dbury.

So if you were looking for the 18th C marriage of persons from the above places . . . .

Perhaps the vicar was not fussy about parental permissions, couples' ages and all that jazz!

Good searching

Chas

Just to say that Joelgethley is not a place in the North Wales county of Meironydd but is does sound an awful lot like the way I've heard people pronounce Dolgellau which was in Meironydd. The vicar probably wrote exactly what he could hear with no-one to even suggest a correct spelling!  Smiley

So if anyone happens to be ineterested in that marriage I would interpret it as Dolgellau.
