Where would I purchase a certificate from
« on: Wednesday 01 July 09 13:31 UTC (UK) »

I am wanting to purchase a birth and marriage certificate, both registered in Salford Manchester, could anyone give me the address of the registry office that I would write to.  Also would they send me a copy of the origional and not a typed out one.  I do like to see the signitures of ancestors even if it is only a cross.  Many thanks
Kind regards
Susan

Local offices sometimes  do a "photocopy"..on 'proper'paper of course but i think that the GRO always do.
www.gro.gov.uk

the salford address is  the register office  ,Town hall, Chorley road  swinton salford M27 5Da   tel 0161 909 6501
email birthsanddeaths@salford.gov.uk   online ordering available...  indexes Lancashire BMD
maybe if you phoned them or asked they might do....
Hope that helps

Apparently what you get from the GRO is a photocopy of the clerks return to the GRO ie you will not see your ancestors signature as what is on the certificate is in fact a copy written by the clerk!

If you want to see the original you will have to apply to the local registrar's office although it is up to them if they give you a photocopy of the original or a typed copy
