AFFLECK Engineers Swindon 1914
« on: Saturday 20 December 08 14:16 UTC (UK) »

Fred & T AFFLECK Iron and Brass Founders, Prospect Works,Swindon.
Is there any researcher interested in this family,no connection to me.  Reason is I have a single sheet of foolscap, [handwritten] being a 6 months account to Mr A Twine of Wooton Bassett Dated Dec 31st 1914,for work done on a Steam Engine and Rack Saw[25lines] My intention is to lodge paper with Swindon & Wilts Archives but if any family still exist get in touch.
Looking at the local Census, the family came from Hartlepool long ago.
The Total Bill came to Twenty Three Pounds, Nine and Ninepence!!    Allen.

Aginger,
I am sure the Swindon & District Archivist will be very pleased to hear from you. Little scraps like that put flesh on the bones. I am always pleased to find something like that. Readers may be interested to see how Affleck presented themselves in 1908 in the local directory.
Toby.

Hi

Fred Affleck b1859 married my husband's grandfather's sister Emily Stratton, they lived in Swindon and had a t least 3 children (1911 census).

I would love to have a copy of the information you have to add to our family tree.

Many thanks Allen,

Will PM with info as soon as I work out how to do it??!!

William Affleck, Frederick & Theodore's father came down to Swindon from Gateshead betw 1841 and 1851, initially he was living in Faringdon St, but from 1861 onwards he is at the Prospect Works and employing a number of men and boys. I think William had 6 children.

Relatives can remember visiting the works and 'Uncle Fred making manhole covers'.

regards
