Can anyone help me to try and face my family tree. My father was called Ernest Nugent, his own Father came over to Scotland with a name similar to Nuclues or Nucklus, which later came Nyguist then eventually shortened to Nugent. He died in Glasgow 1961 (cremated in Daldowie) and his own Father Ernest also in 1952 roughly. I would love to be able to trace anyone who knew any more of the family or more about the original names.
My Father owned a shop called Nugents Newsagents which was in the Gallowgate (Camlachie) until around 1959.
My Uncle was John Nugent and my great Uncle was Fred Nyguist.
I still live in Glasgow and have done so since my birth in Camlachie, Glasgow

Have youn got your fathers birth certificate which will show both parents names?
Have you got your grandfathers death certificate which should give both his parents names.

Welcome to RootsChat Interesting name to research! Given where you live, I think you need to book yourself in to Park Circus in Glasgow for a day (or two  ) to view BMDs for the family. Much cheaper for you than ordering individual certificates (those after the on line cut offs on Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk).
I can't easily see the way the death of your grandfather Ernest has been indexed on SP c. 1961, but the earlier death for an Ernest is showing in 1953 in Townhead, Glasgow City.
You may be in luck...have a look at this link which I think includes your line of Nyguist:

The Ernest who died in 1953 shows as:
Ernst Reimers Nyquist (son of Edward Johansson Nyquist and Johanna Christina Christiansdotter) was born 28 Jun 1887 in Leith, Scotland, and died 1953 in Townhead, Glasgow, Scotland. He married Agnes.
This looks to be the family in Camlachie in the 1901 census, with an indication as to the origin of the surname with the father's place of birth:
John Edward Nyquist 46, Glass Bottle Blower, b. Sweden
John Christine Nyquist 46, b. Sweden
Carl John Nyquist 17, b. Sweden
Gustan Nyquist 16, b Sweden
Ernest Nyquist 13, b. Glasgow
Fred William Nyquist 11, b. Glasgow
Alexander Nyquist 9, b. Glasgow
Janet Christana Nyquist 6, b. Glasgow
John Edward Nyquist 3, b. Glasgow
Lena Christenson 49, sister in law, domestic servant, b. Sweden
Address: 103 Broad St, Camlachie
As suggested by Sancti, you need to work back in stages, verifying names as you go. There looks to be quite a family contingency there in Glasgow from the turn of the 1800s.

Hi Monica i am sitting here reading your message abt my grandfather Ernest Nugent the tears are running down my face as i have never even known my great grandparents names untill now i cant thank you enough for the start this has gave me ....the computer is all new to me and dont really know where to start but i will do as suggested and go to registar office i dont have ant certificates only my grandmother Agnes Nugent who married Ernest my grandfather.. and unfortunately there is no one left to my knowledge to ask for info. abt any one as i am the oldest left now so i have death certificate of Agnes Grandmother so will take that with me can you advise me on anything else i could try. again Thank You so very much it has filled me with so much emotion

Here is a recent post regarding Park Circus (now called Strathclyde Genealogy Centre which I didn't know it was now called  ) for background www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,380543.0.html
I think the family tree link I posted has been put together by a descedent of Ernest's sister Jennie Christina, who married a Robert McFarlane given the amount of fairly recent information included for her line. Would be good to find you a way of contacting this line via email...let me see if I can find a way you could this either on the link or on any other posts this person may have done.
It is really them you have to thank Huge amount of work on your Nugent line (interesting they show in as Nyquist, with the q rather than g) there by them which would have been hard for you to find. I think they have probably taken it as far as they could on this line given some of the records are from Sweden....but you never know!
The one that you have to work on is your Gran Agnes So that visit to the Strathclyde Genealogy Centre will be excellent for her records on her family details. Her parents' names will be on her marriage cert which will let you work back to their parents etc.
'Where to start with Scottish Research' www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html is a good help guide here on RC.
Start with that and let's see how you go Come back at any time either on this line or new post for your Gran if you need some help with her side.

:)hi Monica my head is all over the place trying to take all this in i am overwhelmed it means so much to me i never thought i could ever find anyone as had so little to go on you have been so helpful a cpl. hours ago i knew nothing now at least i have names to put to my family.. thank you ..... lets hope we hear back from this e-mail i am so happy that my family got me this laptop for my 60th birthday it was so i could try and trace family that i got it yeeeehaaaa the reason its all so important to me is my father died in 1961 when he was only 35 yrs old so had no opportunity to find out family history and it now seems so important that i do

I found your message! Some years ago I had contact with a minister from the town of Nodinge in Sweden where our family came from. They were glass bottle makers who came to Camlachie because, I think, of the growing need for glass in the chemical industry.
Ernst Reimers Nyguist b 28 6 1887 in Leith, Scotland was one of 8 children (that I am aware of) of and his father was
Edward Johannesson Nyguist b 5 5 1885 in Sweden and d 17 12 1910 in Glasgow
and Ernst's mother was
Johanna Christina Christiansdotter b 8 9 1885 in Nodinge, Sweden d 17 3 1927 at 103 Broad Street, Glasgow
Ernst's siblings are noted down by Monica in the earlier email
Edward J Nyguist's father was John Jonsson and his mother was Annie Christina both from Sweden and deceased at the time of Edward J Nyguist's death
Johanna Christina's father was
Kristian Larsson b 23 1 1820 in Nodinge, d 1 1 1884 and mother
Sara Brita larssdotter b 28 10 1816 in Tunge, Sweden. Their other children were
Lena Larssdotter b abt 1852
Johan Larsson b 4 12 1842 Nodinge
Sara Lisa Larsdotter b 15 7 1851 Nodinge
Karin Larsdotter b 7 7 1959
My Grandmother was Janet (Jennie) Christina Nyguist, b 17 3 1895 in Glasgow who married Robert McFarlane on 18 August 1916 in Glasgow. Robert and Jennie had 13 children, my father Andrew McFarlane b 22 9 1926 at 103 Broad St.
