Gunsmiths in Cheshunt

Hi - can anyone help?

I'm trying to find out whether there was some sort of gun factory in cheshunt. My ancestor was a gunsmith in 1871 living in cheshunt and there seems to be a lot of them in the same area with the same job. Does anyone know anything about a gun factory and where I could find any information.

Hi Sarah,

They were probably employed at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield, producers of military rifles including the famous Lee-Enfield rifle.  The factory was open from 1816 until 1988.
