The first LDS film I hired many years ago showed Bisley BT's and recently I came across the notebook I'd used in which I'd copied potential family info. and interesting facts found - historical or otherwise.

Two interesting entries in the BT of the 1808 parish register are:-
"Sept 25 Caroline of W'm Smith" and "Oct 9 George of John and Jane Smith"

Similarly in the 1811 BT are :-
"Emma of John and Jane Smith baptized at Chalford Chapel Jan'y 20" and "Fanny of William Smith".  The Jan 20 entry is the only one with a specific date given that year.

I thought at the time that the reason for the inclusion of Jane in two years' entries was perhaps because their surnames being the same, the christian name Jane was given in order to differentiate them. 

Just now I checked the entries on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(A-M).htm#B  and that gives them except for the Chalford Chapel bit.  Further checks using the site shows the differentiation idea to be false..

So what, in your opinion is the reason for the inclusion of both parents' christian names among dozens and dozens of entries giving just the fathers' names?
