 I am confused why my mother wont tell me about my grandperent`s. She says they live in Orkney and the family name of my grand mother is Velzian. I was wondering if somebody can help me find my grandfather or if my mother has brothers and sisters

You say who your grandmother was but don't mention who your grandfather was or give any approx ages. Was this your grandmother's maiden name or did she marrysomeone with that surname?
Following on from what Pam has found, and taking it as a maiden name, the Scotlands People site show 5 marriages of a person with that name Scotland in 1904-1931:
1904 in Holm and Palplay, Orkney
1920 in St Giles, Edinburgh
1921 in Kirkwall, Orkney
1929 in Dunfermline, Fife
1931 in Leith North, Edinburgh
Also, to find if your mother had any brothers or sisters, we'd need to know the approx date and name. However, it's Rootschat's policy to not mention names of living people on the public boards.

Thank you everybody  . I asked my older brother if he can help me he said that she is still alive and has had many children But still would not tell me anything after . I only have herd of a few of my aunt and uncal s names. I can`t remember any more but my mum said lot`s of names so the woman has had many children. I will check the links now thank you GAdget, Steve and Pam

If she is still alive, we can't really do much more on on this public thread. However, if her birth name is as stated and in Orkney, there are two possible births showing on the Scotlands People site in 1913 and 1929 -
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
None of the other names that you mentioned are listed in Orkney.
You should really try to obtain your mother's birth certificate and work back from that. I assume you know her approximate age/place of birth.

My mum was born on the black isle but she was later adopted. But the biological mother name is known and she was in orkeny. thanks you for helping me again Gadget.

I have just registered. My maiden name is Velzian and I live in Orkney. I have just been out at the Sandwick Graveyard looking at some of my ancestors names and then came home to do a search and saw this thread. There are not many Velzians left in Orkney, I have cousins in England and there are Velzians in Edinburgh. I would assume we are related as there are very few Velzians left.

Hi, I have just joined this site and found the Velzian discussion. My g, grandfather gave his mother as Eliza Velzian and father John Linklater on his marriage certificate. I have pieced together the Velzian side and have an Ann Velzian daughter of William Velzian and Margaret Cantley. Ann was born in 1943. Any connection? My g,g,grandfather was registered as liiegitimate so his parents never married and Eliza went on to marry Robert Eunson in 1862.
