Hi, Good stock, I have Sligo O'Garas in my tree too. Have you had a look at some of the online Griffiths Valuation. I think Sligo was done in 1858 so your Patrick may turn up on it as head of household. I had a look myself on this site and it seems to slim down the possible locations to 3.
One is a reverend so if the family is catholic you can (hopefully) rule him out. There's two entries for BALLYFAHY in KILTURRA so that might be the one person. There one other in CARROWCRORY in TOOMOUR.
Here's a free site http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php
What gave you the date and fathers name, was it a cert or census or something? Just wondering is there any other clues you could be giving out.

Hi, thanks for the reply!! I did have a quick look on griffiths but not sure what I was looking for at the time, but I will look again!!. Thomas O gara was married in Manchester so I have his marriage certificate and Patrick was his dad but obviously no dates of indeed his mum. I might have found some siblings of thomas, Margaret and James both slightly younger than him. They ofcourse wont be on the griffiths site will they? I would like to know what patricks wife was called but not sure how to find that. I have ordered his death certificate so that will be interesting.

The only thing I can think of but you might have it already, is if you got the parish record of thomas' marriage in Manchester it might turn up his mothers maiden name. It doesn't always do that but sometimes you can get lucky with an address to boot. But not all parish records are full of detail and I'm only familiar with Irish catholic ones.
If his siblings stayed in sligo maybe their deaths might be on the register. Here's a link to the mormon site http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home And if you can bare the wait, the national archive will have the sligo census up over the next couple of months. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
There's another one with just the data of the 1901 census http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/census.shtml
You never know, something might start tying in with something else.

Hi Heywood, yes my thomas did marry martha burke, how did u know that, youre magic!!
Margaret ogara married in manchester too to william anderson. James O gara came to stay with them on one of the censors but then I lose James. Ogara spelt in all sorts of ways ofcourse. It was only the Marriage certificate that drew me to the spelling of ogara.

Am fairly sure they are here in 1851 1851 HO107; Piece: 2226; Folio: 70; Page: 8 34 John Street Manchester (Ancoats) Ann O'Gara lodger married 36 yrs labourer's wife Ann daughter 14 yrs Piecer in Mill James son 12 yrs Hawker Thomas son 9 yrs Hawker Margaret daughter 6 yrs all born Ireland lodging with a family called Callaghan I am assuming that you don't have this information ogara 1861 RG9; Piece: 2933; Folio: 44; Page: 31 42 Harrison Street Ann Garry head widow 44 yrs Washerwoman Margaret daur 16 yrs Cotton Piecer Ann daur 22 yrs Cotton Piecer all born Sligo Ann's status looks as though it was 'Mar' and then 'Wid' written over it. Young Ann must be the one I found in other censuses with 'married' as status for respectability I suppose. I wonder if Patrick was ever with the family in England There is a death on free BMD for 1847 and also one for 1861 No I didnt have this info. Patrick was deceased on Thomas and Marthas wedding certificate, they married in 1868 at St annes Rc chapel junction street manchester, witnesses were francis Burke and Margaret O gara
