1841 census - where exactly is this (Completed)
« on: Friday 29 May 09 20:56 UTC (UK) »

David Lloyd was an agricultural labourer aged 50 living alone at Glanrhos Cottage in the civil parish of Llanilar Ucha in Cardiganshire at the time of the 1841 census.

Can anyone with access to the 1841 census (and an OS map!) tell me by looking at adjacent households, exactly where Glanrhos Cottage was?

Thanks

Hi Greygirl

The closest I can get got it is on the 1901 census and its between a place called the Railway Hut, and Brynarth Bach and Dolfor Farm

If you go to this site . http://www.british-history.ac.uk/Default.aspx

and click on maps, then put in Llanilar, and press go, it will eventually take you to a map of the area, which you can search. I had a quick look, but couldnt see the cottage, but there are some cottages in the area

Thanks very much Ricky
I couldn't get the website to produce any maps, but using a modern OS map I've found Dolfor Farm and an area called Allt Brynarth, both on a disused railway line which very  probably boasted a Railway Hut somewhere along its length. It's exactly the right area for my searches and I think you might just have helped me track down the 1841 whereabouts of my Great-great-great grandfather. Thanks again!
