Surname ALGIE
« on: Monday 06 July 09 14:57 UTC (UK) »

I'm curious first of all as to how one pronounces this, hard or soft g?

Now then, I have a Matthew Algie marrying an Elizabeth Barton in Cathcart in 1805. I'm not very hopeful about figuring out which Matthew Algie this is, by myself, as several were born around the same time, so I think I'm looking for somebody else researching the same family. Anyone out there.

Matthew's son John also married a Barton, Margaret in his case. Coincidence or keeping it in the family? Hoping there's an Algie reading this who can enlighten me.

Too many hours wandering around Neilston cemetery looking for a headstone for some one else....
I am not researching the family, but it may be of interest: In Neilston cemetery there is a gravestone of a Jeanie Algie, died 13th April 1883, aged 58 years. She is the wife of a John Bell, and there are quite a few other 'Bell's listed on the stone.
