William Louge Gallacher b1901
« on: Wednesday 10 June 09 22:32 UTC (UK) »

Hi I'm trying to trace my grandfather who was born in Neilston Scotland 8/12/1901.  he moved to Silverend Essex a few years after the death of his wife Catherine.  Catherine died in 1924.

He married someone called Florence and went on to have some more children, not sure how many.

I'd like to know where and when he died and any other relevant info.

Hi

As you may know, we have a rule on Rootschat that details of living people are not given, in order to protect their privacy.  So if either of the daughters you name is still living, you may wish to amend your post to remove her name/their names.

You will find on FreeBMD (at www.freebmd.org.uk) a likely match for the first daughter you name, birth registered in 1929 (search for Gallacher births with mother's maiden name Grant).  The registration district of Braintree fits with the information you have given.

Not yet on FreeBMD is another Gallacher/Grant birth matching the second daughter you name (with a middle initial J): Dec qtr 1931 Braintree 4a 1416.

I don't see any other suitable Gallacher/Grant children.

Do you have any idea at all of how long your grandfather is likely to have lived?  Death records for the last two-thirds of the 20th century are not yet indexed so as to be easily digitally searchable, so it could be a long trawl! You can do such a trawl by quarter and year on the full GRO indexes at (among other places) the pay sites www.ancestry.com or www.findmypast.co.uk.

Thank you so much Anna - sorry bout names I didn't think - I'm new to all this

Your information certainly fits with my memories of the surname Grant.

I think my grandfather lived until around early 1960's.

Thanks again.
