Swanage High Street in 1891 - Warren House or Gloster House
« on: Friday 29 May 09 09:01 UTC (UK) »

Hi, Everyone,
I was wondering whether there is anyone with local knowledge of Swanage, in particular the High Street.  Have been looking in the 1891 Census RG 12/1641 page 22 at the household headed by a Samuel Jno Spencer TATCHELL, which seems to spread over Warren House and Gloster House.  Can someone tell me whether these buildings still exist today.  Soon afterwards, on the same page,  is Willow House.
I don't seem able to find this family in the 1901 Census, perhaps they have been mistranscribed...
I'm particularly interested in William Damon TATCHELL who is only aged 11 months in the 1891.  In 1922 he married one of my KERSHAW family and emigrated to Canada with her almost straight after the wedding,
Very best wishes, keith
