It could be Stranton. There are only eleven miles between Stranton and Dalton-le-Dale.

On the index at Durham Records Online they give the birthplace as Stainton.

Hi, according to a transcript of Stranton PRs there is a gap in the records between 10 June 1777 and 06 July 1778. This is very frustrating as I am trying to find a Lettice or Alice Brown who is possibly the daughter of William Brown and Ann Mordecai.
