Could someone plse. lookup George Mason's parents & siblings.
George Mason jnr. was born in London on 12 March 1810. Namesake & presumably eldest son of George Mason a "landscape painter". & mother, Mary Ann ?
Around the age of 14 he went to sea. He engaged on the Vansittart bound from London to Hobart Town. He left the Vansittart soon after reaching Tasmania to try his hand at whaling.
Christmas day 1837 he landed at Kapiti Island, New Zealand where he stayed later settling in Okains Bay, South Island, NZ. Any details much appreciated. Cheers, Tiffaney

I'm having trouble so far.
There was a George Mason, A.R.A, a landscape painter, who apparently died in 1872 (he's listed in the end of year Times list of persons of note who'd died that year).
I can also find a mention that the brother in law of George Mason, A.R.A was John Turtle Wood
The Times, Thursday, Mar 27, 1890; pg. 1; Issue 32970; col A - John Turtle Wood, died aged 69.
The Times, Tuesday, Sep 03, 1889; pg. 1; Issue 32794; col A -Edward Walter Nealot Wood, son of John Turtle Wood, died aged 34.
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/speel/paint/mason.htm - this is probably this George Heming/Hemming Mason, he married Mary Emma Wood. Clearly not the father of your George but possibly some sort of cousin?
Do any of the records you have, or, say, the names of George Jr's children, give any hint as to what Mary Ann's maiden name was?

The IGI shows a George Mason born 12 March 1810 London but no parents names. It also shows that he died 20th april 1889,probably worn out KenB

Thanks for your lookup Kennyb. I found details about George Mason snr. being a Landscape Artist in 150yrs of the Mason Family in New Zealand 1837-1987 but they knew nothing more at that time of either of their son's father or mother, Mary Ann. Amazing Elizabeth (Bessie) lived till age of 66.!! Someone will come to light I'm sure. Cheers Tiffaney

Hi
Just doing some housekeeping on the London and Middlesex boards and going through the oldest posts. Now there are further resources available it gives a chance for old posts to be looked at again to see if the information can be found or the chance for posters to say whether this information has been answered and this topic can be completed. If it can be completed please put completed into the title of this topic and it can be moved to London and Middlesex completed (it is never lost off Rootschat) giving more space for other topics to be looked at again by all of us to see if we can help. If you are still looking for the information perhaps you can now add further details to help others search again for you.
Regards
