census terms

in the family I am researching in Norfolk - the census gives the occupation of two teenage girls(if I've deciphered it correctly)as week girls. What exactly did this term cover.

I cannot find the term in the old occupations.

Maybe the girls were employed week by week.

this is the 1871 census and in the family of george Nichols of Brazen doors road -All Saints Norfolk-couldn't decipher occupation ofEmma and Eliza but farther up the page another girl has the same occupation and it looks like week girl by her name.

Sally, that's several hundred pages... (3,500+ People anyway)
You also need to give the folio /Page number.

I think I've solved the problem.  i came accross an article that explained about servants being employed by the week and on closer inspection after week girls another word is written that looks like serve.  i suppose certain servants were not required on sundays e.g. laundry.
