John Jemmott, Hurst c 1783 Baptism lookup please

Hi
Can anyone help me find the parentage of John Jemmott b c1783. He was married in Rotherfield Peppard to Mary Shaw of Shiplake on 1 Apr 1804. He is said to be of Hurst in his marriage.

I have looked at the Hurst parish regs online which gives details of his kids, (John, Elizabeth, George, Kejiah/Keziah, and Sara) but there is no information for him so I'm not sure if these online regs are incomplete. His occupation is labourer then horsekeeper.

I have tried Rotherfield Peppard/Shiplake on the Oxfordshire board but no luck.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Hi Steph,

I have the Hurst PRs on a Berks FHS CD and I'm afraid there's no baptism for John c 1783.

However, there is a John Jemmet baptised in Remenham 20 July 1783 s/o John & Drusilla. It's only about 7 miles from Hurst, so he may well be your man.

Thanks for that. I have come across the Remenham Jemmett before however on a website called The Jemmett Trail it indicates that this John Jemmett, s/o John and Drusilla died v.young which is why I disregarded it in the past. Website is http://www.oswild.org/hobnob/family/hazel/john-jemmett2.html although it doesn't state source in this case.

I thought a name like Jemmott/Jemmett would be easy to track but seeing the size of the families which all seemed to have a John in each, it's proving difficult. I'm certain, considering the geography involved and the name that there's a link to the family but it's finding it. Huh

There's also a John Jemmett baptised May 20 1781 in Henley, s/o Thomas & Elizabeth - about 6 miles from Hurst. The PR says Thomas was from Rotherfield Grays on the marriage record in 1780.

Will take another look at Remenham and see if there's a burial - should have done that anyway! I've checked the Henley one and don't see a burial for that John in infancy.

There is a burial in Remenham Sep 8 1783 for a John Jemmett. There's no other info, so I suppose it might have been the father but, as it's only a few weeks after the child's baptism it's more likely to be him.

I found another one - this time in Rotherfield Greys, baptised June 17 1781 s/o Joseph & Mary. (no burial in infancy found).

Thank you so much for taking the time to look for me. I would appreciate if you could look for any others in the area and then I'll take it from there. Every now and then I subscribe to ancestry but they never seem to have the people I'm looking for.

I didn't find any more baptisms for a John Jemmett in the neighbouring Oxfordshire parishes - I have most of them on CD from Oxon FHS.

However, I did notice that, as well as John in 1781, Joseph & Mary also have in Rotherfield Greys

Sarah baptised Nov 18 1770
William Apr 5 1772
Mary Jul 2 1775
Ann Dec 8 1776
(in the middle of all those there is also a Frances Jemmett baptised Apr 10 1774 transcribed as d/o Jeremiah & Mary - may be an error and should read 'Joseph'?!)

and no more children in R Greys but then

May 15 1785 Eleanor d/o Joseph & Mary baptised in Rotherfield Peppard which is where your couple married.
