Could he originally be from Yorkshire or married there
Marriage ;
John DAVEG Dianah HATTERSLEY 25 March 1788 Ecclesfield, Yorkshire
This is a submitted record with batch no.
Another submitted has; John DAVEG, born abt 1763, Bolton, married Dianah on same date.

hi trish, yes thats him ,wedding transcript reads john davedg (note spelling )and diana(note spelling )hattersley mmarried by me ?? kirby curate ,john signed his name ,diana marked with a cross ,witnesses were jonathon hattersley (father) and george rodgers who must have been a friend of family as the church warden something stringer must have been away, they then went back to bolton as first two children born there ,then its back to ecclesfield for joseph 1796,and mary 1803,on wedding record it shows john davedg of bolton in the county of lancaster, but i cannot find him where it should be ,any enlightenment would help many thanks arry.

Hi Arry,
This is what I have found so far
John Davidge (Daveg) born 1763 BOLTON YORKSHIRE
married Dianah Hattersley 25th March 1788 at Ecclesfield Yorkshire,
Dianah Hattersley was born in Ecclesfield Yorkshire in 1767
Children that I found so far are
John Davidge bapt 28th oct 1792 Ringley Lancashire
Father John Davidge
Mother Dianah
William Davidge bapt 4th July 1790 Ringley Lancashire.
Father John
Mother Diana
Now I think you could be getting confussed by the fact that there is a BOLTON near to RINGLEY in Lancashire.
John Davidge was b at BOLTON in YORKSHIRE. according to LDS information
Davidge is a very common name in and around Yorkshire but nor so common in Lancashire.
Hattersley is also a very common name in Yorkshire also
If they originate from Yorkshire like I think they do they could have moved from there to find work.Hence the children being born in Lancs and Baptised at Ringley
That area was mostley cotton and wool weavers etc and coal mining
Names could be transcribers errors or spelling the name as they sounded not as they are spelt poorley educated people

hi ecclescake thanks very much for info ,my problem is ,wedding transcript reads ,john davedg of bolton in the county of lancaster ,and he was educated as his signed name is very legible also on william and john,s birth reg he is a paper maker i would think in those times quite a good job ,however i shall look at bolton yorks and i do hope you are right as i have been looking for him for quite a while now again my thanks arry.ps i have just thought about lds info who i have been in touch with as some info is incorrect, and they have agreed ,diana(dinah was christened ecclesfield yorks 6th feb 1763 not 67,she was burried at ecclesfield 25th august 1833 aged 71yrs many thanks arry

Hi Arry,
The most likely church in ECCLESFIELD Yorkshire is likely to be St Mary,s.
or the other possibilitie All Saints Church BOLTON Yorks.
Have you found any of that family on the Census for BOLTON LANCSHIRE ?

hi ec have been at it since last message have not made any headway eccept to discover some of my lot from ecclesall beirlow are right on the border of derby,my dad george francis davage 1914 is down as chesterfield and his dad george william davage 1889 is down as ecclesall b ,his george davage 1851 is at wortley ,his dad george davis ?? davage 1822/3 ,in 1841,for some reason when he was an apprentice his name became davis ,his dad william 1790 is ringley lancs ,and then we know aout john davedg ,i think i am going to have to get birth cert for william 1790 and hopefully i might be able to keep what little sanity i have left ,oh george 1822 is at wortley ,i have printed out from bmd every davage all types from 1837 and so far it is all going together ,william 1790 died in 1868 at wadsley bridge ,i am getting there , all the very best to you arry,
