There is a death for a Thomas Henry Farr in Woburn District in 1865 - could be him Can't see Thomas c1859 born Wavendon in 1871.
Jan
You can ask that they only send the birth cert if mother is Caroline they then won't charge full price if it is the wrong one - only £3 I think.

I'd be tempted to get the cert anyway, just to find out who he was if he wasn't Caroline's son. He has to be connected somehow if he's Matthew's grandson.

Yes so would I David - in fact I would also want to get the 1847 Marriage cert for Richard and Hannah as well as the Richard to Caroline marriage cert.
Jan
The other thing I want is to find Richard, Hannah and Caroline in 1851 and Richard in 1861

Hi John
I've looked for them in 1851 too, and can find no trace of them.
I was looking for:
Caroline Farr (or perhaps Battam(s)) age 8 ie born 1842/3 at Aspley Guise/Woburn, her assumed mother Hannah Battam(s) age 25-29 (she was 15 in 1841), born in Beds (or perhaps Bucks) - she died 1858 - and her husband Richard Battam(s) age 41 born 1820 at Newton Longville Bucks
Possibly living at Wavendon or Fenny Stratford Bucks, but I'd expanded that to Bucks and Beds
If you find them you're a bigger star than I thought

I've just looked fro Susan but can't find her anymore than I can find Richard, Hannah or Caroline in 1851. Richard is also still missing in 61.
Harrisonsdad you do have a difficult family, no wonder you are a bit stumped!

About Caroline Farr
Originally submitted by pmalish to Paul Malish's Family Tree on 13 Feb 2008
"Caroline is believed to be the niece of her husband, Richard Battams (her uncle), according to the Census data. However, it is suspected that Caroline may actually be an illegitimate daughter of Hannah Farr, and that Richard was her step-father prior to their marriage."
I was talking to older Farrs recently and the half remembered conversations with now deceased Farrs may hold some glimmer of "truth". One ancestor is said to have given birth to an illegitimate child, was subsequently kicked out of house and home and took residence with a family. It is believed that this young mother took the name of the household who took her in.
I can't make this fit Hannah with Caroline as the illigimate child. Hannah is shown as "Farr" in 1841 census before Caroline's birth. Caroline would have been about 16 when Thomas Farr was born but by that time Hannah had been married and died. Not sure if this helps at all but this could explain the absence of historical records with the Farr surname

Hi John ....
Sorry yes 1849 is correct and have amended the above. Got mixed with the note for the marriage.
I looked to see if there was anymore info on the baptisms but no clues at all. There is a Farr family in Wavendon in 1823 who baptise a son John with John & Elizabeth as parents but my Bucks cd is playing up so do not know if they give any clues around the census.

Hi
I think the story does fit with Hannah and Caroline if the family she was taken in by was the Battams - Hannah would then have become an adopted sister to Richard and Caroline would have been his niece! That Hannah later married Richard may not have been something that the older now deceased Farrs were aware of.
I think you really do need to order the various certificates suggested in this thread if you want to make any further headway with this family.
