Hi RootsChat world!
I'm trying to trace my family tree on my father's side and the name is Growcoot. A highly unusual name and so one would think that it should be easy, however I can get no further than my grandfather - Philip Frederick Growcoot, born Market Drayton in 1913. He married twice, first to a woman named Bosworth and then to my grandmother Jean Wood and this was in Liverpool.
His mother's maiden name seems to have been Bill but apart from that I have no other information about his parents. There seems to have been a number of Growcoots from the 1860s onwards in Wolverhampton, but a I can't make any sure connections. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance, Paul.

Wow! Thanks Laurina,
Looks good, but I'm concerned about the son, Arthur. My grandfarther's name was Philip. Plus, if the marriage took place in 1897, that would have been 16 years before my grandfarther was born. Possible but unlikely at that time a fear. Is there anyway I can make a more conclusive conncetion?
Thanks again Laurina for your help.

Seems the name is spelt differently but Noah fits...
1871 Census RG10/2940/94/ 34 - 24 M..... Street, Wolverhampton
John Growcot 51, Head, Rugby, Warwickshire - Labourer in iron works Mary Growcot 41, Wife, Sohdow James Growcot 14, Son, Bushbry, Staffordshire Selina Growcot 8, Daug, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire Noah Growcot 4 months, Son Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
You might be best to send for your grandfather's birth certificate - it would confirm his parents names and occupations.
There could be other children born filling that gap.

Hi both,
If you put the surname Growcoot into the Full Person search facility on the 1911 census, it will reveal 4 Growcoots in Market Drayton.

Hi Paul,
I am also researching my family tree and believe we are related.
My Mother's name is Edna Growcoot and she was born in Market Drayton and then moved to Dursley when she was a child. I understand we have lots of family in Liverpool and Wolverhampton although we now live in Bristol. She had an Uncle Fred and I have attached a picture in his RAF Uniform.
My Grandfather's name was Harry John Growcoot and he had two brother's Noah Growcoot and Phillip Frederick Growcoot. Their parents names were Noah Growcoot and Sarah Bill.
I would be pleased to here from you as we could compare family trees and I have lots of old photos of the family I have scanned onto my computer.
Regards Amanda
