Hi Myfi:

What a surprise to see your message.  I did some research on this couple last Sept while I was in Salt Lake as I believe that Marion is the daughter of John and Ann hercliff.  I am going to be in Yorkshire this July and I am going to see if I can find the marriage record.  Have got copies of the census information.

Cheers

Hi myfi:

I do have a copy of the marriage certifcate for Hans Maens and Marian Clarkson:

Here is the information:

Hans Maens of this parish, Sugar Baker,  single adn Marian Clarkson of this parish single were married in this church by Banns , this 23 day of September 1827. by William Reary, curate

Hard to read who the wittnesses are first names are  George and a John.

I my reason why I think Marian is a Hercliff.

1841 Census, Sculcoates

Han         Mines         35                  labourer     born Foreign parts
Miriam                       45                                             Yks
Samuel                     12                                               "
Frederick                   10                                               "
Henry                         8                                                "
Elizabeth                    2                                                "
Thomas   Clarkson     15                                              "
John        Clarkson     15                                              "

I think that Thomas and John Clarkson are the children of Marian from her first marriage to Jonathan Clarkson.

Now John and Ann Hercliff had a daughter Elizabeth who married a John Rilet in 1824.  The 1851 census has the following informaton.

Hull, Yks

22 North Street

John                    Rillet          56   Grocer              Hereford Lincolnshire
Elizabeth               "              48                           Epplewell, Yorks
Mary                 Hepton         52   Lodger             Hull, Yks
Isabella               "                27                           Hull, Yks
George            Wharam        25       "                    "
Margaret              "               25       "                    "
John William         "                6        '                     "
Mary               Sawyer            30      "                    "
Emily              Clarkson         28        "                   Newark Nottinghamshire
Mariam              "                    5        "                   Hull, Yks.

I find it interestng that an Mary Clarkson is living with Elizabeth Rillet. She could be a niece in law to Elizabeth.  Emily is shown as a widow on the census.  So she could have been married to John or Thomas Clarkson.  Going to see if I can find a marriage.

Also found on the 1871 census in Hull

George  Bulters                    28        born Lincolnshire
Mariam A. Bulters                 25                Hull, Yks
Emily E.                                  3                Hull, Yks
Elizabeth   Rilett                   65                Epplewell, Yks
Edward  Skins                      27                Lincolnshire

Elizabeth is listed as a visitor and Edward as a boarder
I think this shows there is a connection of Elizabeth to the Clarkson family.  I know I looked up the marriage for Mariam Clarkson and she did marry a George Bulters.

Hope this makes sense to you.

Cheers

Hi
I have the booklet of Sculcoates marriages 1821-1829

The curate's name is Keary and the witness' are George Medcalf and John Bradbury.  Maybe the 1st witness may be of interest to you but John Bradbury seems to be a witness at almost every marriage in Sculcoates

Hi Bee

Thanks everso for checking in your booklet and the extra details it gave, much appreciated.

Hi Anne

Great to hear from you again,  bah these Hercliffs are a pain!!  I gave them a rest for a while as they were "doin me ed in" ...lol

I had worked out that it was possible that Marian Clarkson was our Mary  formerley Hercliff b.1794 d/o John & Ann but hoped that the marriage entry to Hans Maens would say that she was a widow just to confirm it.

Have you managed to find a burial for her first husband Jonathon Clarkson?  I've hunted high and low without any luck.
