Does anyone know if there are any of the Civil registration indexes for any areas or time periods of Wexford missing?

I believe that the data used for the familysearch index was based on scans (of microfilms) of the index books - and as in the actual books in the GRO these include registrations records from all over the country in alphabetic order ... so its difficult to see how they could miss certain districts.

It is possible that a database, or indexing glitch is causing a problem with certain districts.. or the search system

the only way I can think to check this is to look for records for a common Wexford surname - in each district..

(the index is down for maintenance at the moment

I had a look at the index, and using the surnames Redmond & Kavanagh for testing. I have found listings in all the main Co. Wexford registration districts (Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross, Wexford) except Shillelagh

This district is split between counties Wicklow, Carlow & Wexford.. with only a quite small section of 16 townlands in Co. Wexford.

could familysearch have included this under one of those counties ?

another Registration District has a small section in Co. Wexford :

Baltinglass - part Carlow, Kildare, Wicklow with one townland (Monroe)  which seems to be in Wexford

the townland database lists a section of the registration district  Mountmellick - in Wexford, but does not seem possible as it's based around counties Offaly & Laois - so I presume that's a typo.

I still cannot find the irish records??? Where does Ballycanew fall into to be searched??

the site is still not working properly for me - just the basic name & registration district .. no index details are displaying

Ballycanew town is in the registration district of Gorey.

the townland database at www.seanruad.com has details of the towns, townland, Barony, Civil Parish and Poor Law Union.

The Poor Law Union (PLU) is equivalent to the Registration District.

it looks like the collection is still in the system and only partially working.. some of the basic details (name, year and registration district) still appear under the collection named 1408347

Thomas Sterne B. 1855 think Ballycanew he was 45 in the 1901 census. From him marriage cert his father was Richard no mothers name. Found a Richard Sterne in PRIMARY VALUATION (1852) Parish of Ballycanew, County Wexford, Ireland

... civil birth registration only started in 1864 - so there will be no record of him on the index.

non-Catholic marriage registration started in 1845 so you might find his parents marriage

widening the search to all Ireland there are no marriage index matches for a Richard Sterne - if they married before 1845, then they would have missed civil registration.

doing an all-Ireland search on early Richard Sterne records gives two deaths, both of which are in the the Gorey registration district

Name: Richard Sterne / Registration district: Gorey
quarter and year: 1867
Age: 54 (est 1813)
Volume: 17 / Page: 607

Name: Richard Sterne / Registration district: Gorey
quarter / year: 1875
Age: 60  (est 1815)

to find a birth before civil registration in 1864 you will need to search for parish registers, which are not available on familysearch.

I dont know of anywhere online that has Co. Wexford parish records - they are not currently included on the Irish Family History Foundation website.
