I can read the first three words easily ... but what is the word after Spiller ??
This is the front page of a very old book (about 6" x 4") of spellings, stories with morals, Biblical parables, etc that I inherited from my Ma-in-Law who was a Spiller from Devon before her marriage ...
There are other family records pages I'm having a go at reading ... though why they wrote inside a spelling book, rather than the family Bible ??

Hi Lydart,
Quick look at FreeBMD tells me.......no!
If the family is from Devon could it be a place? There is Wrangaton, near Ivybridge.
Any idea of William's age at the time? Perhaps he was concentrating on forming the letters and not on the spelling!

OOoo ! Thats good ... this is my ex Ma-in-Laws family, so as I've run out of my own lines/hit walls, I thought I'd see if I can find anything out about her !
An IGI gives me something to start with ...
... and that written birth which looks like 1872 might, of course, actually BE 1872 if the whole thing was written much later than I supposed !
The Vincent/Hull marriage is recorded in the book as 1825 ??
And I wonder if this whole thread ought now to be moved to the Devon or Somerset boards ? How do I do that, or get a mod to do it ??
