Surname: Troke?
« on: Wednesday 03 June 09 22:32 UTC (UK) »

I have traced a line of my family tree back to James Deaman who was born about 1801 in Downton, Wiltshire. James married Elizabeth who was born about 1799 in Canford.

Their children were Henry b 1829, Sophie b 1831 and Simon Troke (his middle name) - all born in Canford.

In my research I've noticed that a few of my ancestors have named their offspring with the mothers maiden name as their childs middle name so I was wondering if that could be Elizabeths maiden name.

Does anyone have the name Troke in their family tree or have they come across it? i've searched the One Name board but it's not on there.

It's a name I've never come across before so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree (excuse the pun!)

Thanks

Kim

Further to the above, I have now discovered that although I hadn't come across the name before, I certainly have got Troke ancestors.

There seems to be several generations of Simon Troke (Troak) born in West Parley early 1700's and Troke families in Hampreston and Canford Magna.

If anyone has any connection to this family I would love to hear from them.

Thanks

Kim

Hi Kim
Sorry no Troke family in my tree and probably not a lot of help, but I can tell you that a Troke family was living in the parish of Canford Magna in comparatively recent (9/10?) years. I also notice that the name occurs several times in the current Bournemouth/Poole BT Phone Book.

Hi David & Nanny Jan,

thank you very much for your responses. The info on the name Troke was really interesting - on searching to parish records I have noticed it has been spelt both Troke and Troake. The photos are lovely, it seems like an idyllic English village and I hope it won't be too long before I can visit and explore the area that the Troke family came from.

Since my first post I have found a number of ancestors - unfortunately there were a lot of Simon Trokes and I can't figure out which ones were my ancestors! I think it will be a quiet day when I can seriously work out who's who!

Thanks again
