Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any info on the ansesters of Thomas Owen born 29th September 1799 in Cleobury Mortimer Salop. He married Elizabeth Beard in Quatford, Shropshire on 28th of July 1830 and had 6 children who were William , Jane, Thomas, Lucy, Elizabeth and Mary.
Any help with this family line would be great,

His baptism is on the IGI at Familysearch same date as you have stated;
Parents SAML. and ELIZ.

Other siblings on Batch;

Hannah 1793

No, there is no Fanny that I know of.
These are the birth dates for the other children

Elizabeth b. 1832
Thomas b.1833
William b.1939
Jane b.1843
Lucy b.1846
Mary b. 1849

There may be other children, I don't know

Fanny is probably an Elizabeth, maybe the first one died? And also first Jane?


Do you have exact dates for Jane/Elizabeths baptism as they are on IGI;
Elizabeth OWENS, christened Rodington, 12 December 1830
Jane OWEN, chr. Rodington, 1 December 1833

Cant find others at this stage.

I don't think fanny was Elizabeth - Fanny is more likely to be frances than Elizabeth -but this looks like her in 1851

IGI has a Lucy Owen b 7 Nov 1845 Quatford - but it is a submitted entry so has to be treated with caution

How accurate is the IGI? If I put in both Elizabeth Beard and Thomas Owen I get father as Thomas or Samual and I noticed that a lot of the references refer to thomas as being the father and the rest say samual is the father
I couldn't say which is correct because I got my info on his birthdate on the IGI.
I have his son Williams birth certificate and all says is born in 1939 Bridgenorth, Salop with father Thomas Owen (occupation joiner) and mother Elizabeth Beard. So I have gone from there

The IGI is pretty accurate if you look at Extracted records

Submitted ones have to be treated with caution - sometimes they are correct - often they are vague and nothing more than a guess.

It looks like the family  found in 1841 is the correct family - do you have the 1851/61 census for the family - if you require them please ask

I'll have a look on the IGI for Thomas'father

Hi Renae,

I have looked at this again and yes, as you said IGI has 2 Thomas's born around same time Roll Eyes
I now think that as your Thomas did not name a son Samuel, it is unlikely that Samuel is his Father.

So that brings us back to Thomas as being the possible one.
The 1841 Census Suzard posted for you is the right one but she has accidentally missed off;

Thomas Owen, born 1799 must have died by 1881 Census.
They were hard to find but have found Elizabeth by following Arthur born 1868.
