WALKER help please
« on: Thursday 04 June 09 10:11 BST (UK) »

Hi all,

Could someone please help me with a William WALKER.  I found William and his family on the Agincourt on route to Australia and his age was listed as 44 and his birthplace was Market Harborough Northamptonshire.  His occupation is listed as Blacksmith.  I can't seem to find him on the IGI, have searched 10 years either side of 1800.  His parents were William and Mary.  These must have been popular names at the time as there are a lot of William and Mary marriages.

Would someone be able to help me find a birth/christening for William Walker as well as checking a marriage for me that is at Rothwell close to where William was born.

Wm WALKER married a Mary TAFFS 12 Oct 1803 at Rothwell, Kettering, Northampton.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.  Many thanks in advance...

When did he emigrate?  Was it after any UK census?
If so it would be worth looking for him on that first.

I've only been able to find William emigrating to Australia in 1848 from France.  Can't find him anywhere apart from these shipping records unfortunately.

Hello Deb,

Have you searched IGI for Northamptonshire records or Leicestershire?

The border must have moved at some time, because Market Harborough batches (films) are listed under Leicestershire.

Hi Justin,

Have searched both Leicestershire and Northamptonshire records on IGI but couldn't see him anywhere, especially a birth around 1804.  I'm only going by the details that were on the shipping records and information I found at my local library history room.
