Barnes family
« on: Thursday 04 June 09 11:23 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I am trying to trace the siblings of my GGgrandmother, Mary Ann Drew Barnes, and am completely stuck!! I'll start by telling you what I know.....

Mary Ann Drew Barnes was born c1835 in Horsleydown St John, the daughter of Henry James Barnes and Mary Ann Drew. She married John Ashfield in Newington in 1856. The IGI has a christening at St Saviour, Southwark in 1835.

Henry James and Mary Ann appear in the 1851 census (HO107/1559/444/1) with 4 children:- Mary A Drew (1835) Emily (1839) Henry James (1841) Emma E (1849)

I think this is the family in 1841:- HO107/1087/2/25  ?? another daughter Mary??

I know what happened to Mary Ann Drew, and have just found that Emma Elizabeth married George William Dicker in 1867. (Have traced her back through names mentioned in my Ggrandmothers will!) but can't find any info on Emily, 1839, and Henry James, 1841.

Hope someone has better luck (or judgement!!) than I have.

Many thanks
Paula

Hi Claire,

Thanks - did see that couple and they do look very promising. They are also in the same street as Emily's mother in 1861!!!

Looks like it might have to be another cert!!

And now trying to find Henry James jnr.........
